Why Hyundai owners come to us

Photos from the floor on Kahikatea Drive. Same team, same hoists, same standards every job.

  • CRDi diesel injector and EGR carbon build-up The 2.0L and 2.2L CRDi diesels in Santa Fe, iLoad and ix35 develop injector wear and EGR carbon clogging that causes rough running and limp mode. As Bosch and Delphi agents we diagnose on our calibrated bench, then have worn injectors rebuilt by our specialist partners or replace them with remanufactured units.
  • Diesel DPF blockage on short-trip vehicles Hyundai diesels driven mostly around town do not get hot enough to regenerate the DPF. A glowing DPF light and lost power are the giveaway. We run forced regeneration and clear the cause.
  • CVT and automatic hesitation on older Tucson and i30 Hyundai transmissions benefit from regular fluid services. We use the correct specification fluid and follow the proper relearn procedure so the gearbox shifts cleanly.

Common Hyundai issues we see

The patterns we have noticed across Hamilton Hyundai owners, and how we handle them.

  • CVT and automatic hesitation on older Tucson and i30

Hyundai transmissions benefit from regular fluid services. We use the correct specification fluid and follow the proper relearn procedure so the gearbox shifts cleanly.

  • Cooling system wear on higher-mileage models

Hyundai cooling systems need scheduled coolant renewal. We check the thermostat, hoses, radiator and water pump so the engine holds the right temperature.

  • Theta II petrol engine top-end noise

Some 2.0L and 2.4L Theta II engines develop a ticking noise on cold start. We diagnose the cause, advise honestly, and quote repair or replacement only if it is genuinely needed.

  • iLoad clutch and dual-mass flywheel wear

Working iLoads punish the clutch. A rattle at idle usually points to a worn dual-mass flywheel. We replace the clutch and flywheel as a matched set with quality parts.

More about Hyundai servicing in Hamilton

Why Hamilton Hyundai owners come to Turbo & Diesel

Many general workshops can change oil on a Hyundai but send the diesel work away. We do it all in-house, with manufacturer-level scan tools and our own calibrated fuel injection test room. You deal directly with the technician working on your vehicle, get a straight answer on what needs doing, and are not paying twice to fix the same fault.

We are MTA-aligned, and servicing here keeps your Hyundai warranty intact under New Zealand consumer law.

Hyundai servicing and repairs we handle

We cover the Gamma and Nu petrol engines and the CRDi diesel engines across the full Hyundai range.

CRDi diesel work (Santa Fe, iLoad, ix35, Tucson):

  • Hard starting, smoke or low power: injectors bench-tested for flow and back-leak on our calibrated Bosch and Delphi test equipment
  • High-pressure pump diagnosis and rebuild via specialist partners or remanufactured replacements
  • Carbon-clogged EGR valves and intake tracts cleaned
  • DPF forced regeneration on diesels that have spent too long on short town trips

Petrol and general work:

  • CVT and automatic transmission fluid services with correct specification fluid and relearn procedure
  • Theta II 2.0L and 2.4L top-end noise diagnosis
  • Clutch and dual-mass flywheel replacement on hard-worked iLoad vans
  • Brakes, suspension, steering, cooling system, cambelt and timing chain

What Hyundai servicing costs

Scheduled services are straightforward to quote upfront. Repair costs vary. Key factors:

  • Parts availability: common Hyundai service parts are well stocked; some diesel injection components have longer lead times
  • Severity: one worn injector is a very different job from a full set; a DPF caught early costs far less than one fully blocked
  • Platform: some models need more dismantling to reach the same part

FAQs

Common Questions

Everything you might want to know before booking.

How much is a full service at Hyundai?

We do not publish a set price because a full service depends on the model and engine, whether it is petrol or CRDi diesel, the parts and fluids your Hyundai is due, and anything found on inspection. A Santa Fe diesel differs from an i30. Call (07) 847 3339 with your model and we will quote your full service up front.

Do I have to get my car serviced at the dealership to keep warranty in NZ?

No. You do not have to use the Hyundai dealer. Under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act, logbook servicing by any qualified workshop keeps your factory warranty intact, as long as the correct parts, fluids and procedures are used. We are MTA-aligned, service to Hyundai schedules, and log every service so your records stay complete.

What are common complaints about Hyundai?

Common owner complaints include electrical faults such as fuel gauge and start issues, the Theta II petrol engine top-end noise on some 2.0L and 2.4L models, and DPF or EGR carbon problems on diesels driven mostly short trips. Most are manageable when caught early. We diagnose the specific vehicle rather than assume the worst.

Do you work on Hyundai CRDi diesel engines?

Yes. Santa Fe, iLoad, ix35 and Tucson diesels are everyday work for us. As authorised Bosch and Delphi agents we have the scan tools and the calibrated injector bench in our own fuel injection test room, so injector and high-pressure pump faults are diagnosed properly rather than guessed.

Why is my Hyundai DPF light on?

A DPF light usually means the diesel particulate filter is loaded with soot and has not been able to burn it off, common on vehicles driven mostly on short town trips. We scan the system, run a forced regeneration, and check whether an injector, EGR or sensor fault caused the blockage so it does not return.

Do you do WOF inspections for Hyundai vehicles?

Yes. We carry out WOF inspections and can handle any repairs needed to pass in the same visit, so you are not driving back and forth between a tester and a workshop. Book it in with your service to save a trip.
